On Market Street in Henderson. It is now the Emerald Casino. I was sorry to see it change names. Pot 'O Gold has an allure, it sounds very Irish. If I were Irish I would wear a pocket watch with and Irish token. It brings good luck.

Vacation Village is a chain of resort hotels, several of them are in the greater Las Vegas area. The most prominenet is the Grandview, at the 9900 block of Las Vegas Blvd. S. It is a huge complex with over 2 000 rooms/suites. It claims to be close to the strip which is not entirely true. Center strip addresses are around 3500, this complex is at 9900. But, people argue it still is the strip. Very true, but Las Vegas Blvd, is partly on the old Arrowhead Highway, (Old Highway 91) which reaches all the way to L.A.. and Salt Lake.I was surprised it hadlive gaming, with some very nice tokens in use.

On Dean Martin Dr. That drive is really the I-15 Frontage Rd. Pretty large truck stop with services for those long haul truckers. Including a few ways to leave those hard earned dollars at that truck stop. It is service oriented.

The Mirage was built in 1989, and was the most expensive resort construction project in the world at that time. It is an upscale hotel at Center Strip and has been bought by Hard Rock International, so these tokens are few and far between and will soon disappear altogether. I am making some available out of my private collection. But only for a limited time. After that the price will increase.

This resort was originally developed by Steve Wynn among several others as a family oriented resort. It had a lagoon with two pirate ships that did battles for the kids to watch. After the great recession the owners at the time MGM Resorts, sold it to Phil Ruffin, a super smart business man. The original pirate theme was scaled back and the original family oriented lay out was changed to a more middle class appeal. It now includes a Gilley's Saloon and Western dance hall, bar and buffet. I love it. I did a few line dances there. It also has better dining options and a Senor Frogs.The name was changed to just "TI".

The Sunset is a locals' casino in Henderson. It is part of the Station Casinos chain of casinos and hotels. I have to say a few things about the Fertita family. They know how to build a casino/hotel. The parking lots are huge, in some instance acres.. The additional parking garages are built to where you can enter the casino without having to step outside into the elements. The buffets are huge, very affordable and the food is well prepared. This token is from about twenty years ago and is in good condition.It opened its doors in 1997.

Main Street Station sounds a lot like a part of the Station Casinos group of casinos. It is not. It was originally built by investors from Florida who had a successful business in Florida when they converted a defunct railroad station into a thriving business. They brought with them several luxurious Pullman dining cars that were on display, and in use on Main street in down town Las Vegas for quite a few years. The casino itself boasted very luxurious decor. Unfortunately the business failed and was sold to the Boyd Group. Last time I checked the hotel and casino were closed It was also one of the few casinos in Las Vegas with an in house brewery. It offered very good beer and typical brewerey dining, German style. The mans bath rooms had large pieces of the infamous Berlin Wall. It offered the user the opportunity to pee on the wall. without getting killed by communist border guards.I checked on the casino a couple of weeks ago and found it closed. Too bad, I liked it. It has a skywalk across main street to the California hotel, another Boyd property.That would be hard to top.
Their gaming tokens feature a train engine, a locomotive. That makes a terrific pocket watch. I can see the conductur now, pulling what looks like a solid gold pocket watch out of his vest pocket, checking the accurate time , and giving the signal for departure.

The Key Largo hotel/casino was located at 377 E.Flamingo Road. It started out as the Quality Inn Key Largo. The casino and dining room were added at a later date almost as an afterthought. I dropped by a few times, put a few quarters in the slots and had a bite to eat, nothinhg much all in all. It showed in the quality of the food. Until later, when a German chef took over. The whole thing, casino and hotel went up in flames one day and the sizable property was fenced for quite a few years. Almost 5 acres in prime location. The tokens are quite rare, because only a few slots were ever active.

Here is a very good example of the supersonic speed change takes place in Las Vegas and surrounding areas. The Reserve was not located in Las Vegas, but in Henderson. Looking at the greater Las Vegas area from an airplane there is no telling where Vegas ends and Henderson begins. It started out as a safari themed hotel/casino. It had a crashed airplane inside the casino hanging off the ceiling and other assorted fake safari pieces. Quite picturesque really. It was bought by the Station casinos group and renamed The Fiesta. That lasted until the pandemic struck. It was closed for a couple of years then razed,and the land was sold to the City of Henderson to build a regional park. The token is silver color.
The minute I first entered the Reserve I thought about an African Safari and the Big Fife. Just with a camera naturally. On a trip like that a good pocket watch comes in handy. What makes it even better is the Safari token the watch has in its cover. And trade goods are also needed. What coud be better than a selection of pocket watches of my design.?

In the late eighties and early nineties I did a lot of business at that casino. I had built a small gift business. The volumes were unbelievable. No such thing as one dozen of this and six of the other. A case of this and two cases of that please was the norm. Visitors, mostly foreigners, were literally shoulder to shoulder. It has a lot of amenities for kids, like an indoor midway for example with performers appearing every half hour or so. Another plus is the huge parking lot and parking garage. I have never visited where I was unable to get a parking spot. It actually includes the largest indoor circus in the world. The present owner is Phil Ruffin, a truly remarkable business man. I will mention more of him when I get to Treasure Island tokens.
I had considered selling them my pocket watch with the CC token. I just was not able to come up withe the volumes that were needed. I want to keep it more exclusive.

I used to drive up to that casino, put a dime in the meter and went inside. Just as easy as can be. The last time I visited, a couple of months ago, the parking attendant asked me for $20. I said no, turned my van around and left. They are too greedy now. It shows, there were not too many gamblers around. Benny had a display of $1 million encased in some kind of acrylic sitting on the gaming floor. Folks used to line up to have their picture taken in front of it. When Benny (Binion) was around I was able to get a steak breakfast for a $1.95 at the snack bar. Gamblers used to be three deep at the craps tables. Not now, the place is not what it used to be after the Binion's sold it. The tokens I saved during my gambling days are pretty rare. I have one complete set only. The rest of them are singles. It is sad what happened to that place. created a separate category for the single tokens.

The Hilton is one of the more interesting hotels/casinos in the Las Vegas area. It started out as the International when it opened in 1969. It was built by self made billionaire Kirk Kerkorian and opened with one thousand rooms and a supersize sports book and gaming area. What made it unique was the fact it was located far removed from the strip on Paradise road. Kirk was declared insane and he would fail. The opposite happened. It was sold several times and now operates as the Westgate. It now has close to 3 000 rooms. What makes it noteworthy is the fact that Elvis Presley performed there and did over 800 consecutive performances without missing a day. It also has (or had, I am not sure) a tie in with Star Trek in the form of its "Spacequest" casino. I have a collection of the Spacequest tokens and am offering them for sale.A few years back, actually quite a few years, the large sign in front, next to Paradise Road, was blown over in one of our strong wind storms. That sign was over 150 feet tall, if memory serves.The paralells between Howard Hughes and Kirk Kerkprian are uncanny. Both wer aviators, both started airlines, both went into gaming, both built hotels, both of them were billionaires.

This casino was located at 15 Fremont St, in the heart of down town Las Vegas. It was, what us locals like to call, a slot joint. Pretty small. But it had a long life all the same, managing to stay in business for many years. It lasted from 1970 to 1999, replaced by LeBayou casino.That is a very respectful life span.
There were never a lot of their tokens around. Like I said, it was a slot joint mainly. Their tokens are rare.

Nowadays it is called The Strat, why I don't know. It is not an improvement in my opinion. It is at 2000 Las Vegas Blvd. S. almost at the corner of Main and the Strip. It is over 1100 feet tall and features some of the most outrageous rides I have ever seen. One of them swings out way over the side and lets you hang there 1100 feet up. The area behind the Strat is not recommended for visitation, unless you want to get robbed. Way back we used to call it "Silicon Valley". Many Vegas showgirls kept an apartment in that area, hence the name. But it fell into disrepair. The builder of the tower was Bob Stupak. His nickname was "The Polish Maverick".I used to do business with his gift shop. He was a heavy smoker 4 - 5 packs a day. He was also a huge gambler putting as much as a million dollars on the line at times. He wanted to go much higher with his tower, but the FAA did not allow it. He wanted it to be the tallest in the Western Hemisphere. There is a large parking garage that is so hard to get into it hurts. Unsafe too because of the characters that hang around. The Strat has some of the finest dining in Las Vegas, not only that, the dining room revolves. It is on top of the tower.You dine while getting a 360 degree view of Las Vegas. Real interesting.

It is on Fremont Street, in the heart of down town. It is now the D. I was in and out of that place at least twice a week, servicing my gift route. It has a sizable parking garage attached. The elevators are poor. Other than that it is a very nice place, small but nice.

This hotel is the oldest in Las Vegas. It sits at E. Fremont, at the corner of Main. . It got its start in 1906. That is amazing, considering Las Vegas itself was incoporated in 1905. That makes this casino 116 years old, and still in business. The gaming area is small, but cozy. The shrimp cocktails are still cheap. It may be the oldest casino in Las Vegas, but it is not the oldest, continuously operating casino. That honor belongs to the Railroad Pass casino in Henderson. It never closed, and never changed hands until a couple of years ago.I have two different images ( tokens) for this casino. Please specify.

This casino is at 217 Las Vegas Blvd. N, between the El Cortez and the Mob Museum. Not the best location. It used to be a casino, now it advertises itself as a residential hotel. It is part of the Siegel group of properties.

1821 Las Vegas Blvd. N. Not the best neighborhood and not the worst. It is family owned by the Stamis family. For its location it i is very clean, with good and affordable food. The owners are Greeks or Greek descent, which shows in the food menu. Parking is free and plentiful.I kinda like that place, although I do not get there a lot.The token is actually silver color.

This casino is at the 3500 block of the strip. Anytime you see a 3500 address you are talking center strip.It is at The Linq promenade complex between the Flamingo and the Imperial Palace. Compared to the rest of its neighbours it is pretty small.

This was the starting point for the entire Station Casinos chain of casinos. It started with a bingo place and , if I recall correctly a businessman by the name of Thomas who was told by the Gaming Control Boad to sell his place or else. I think he had made it impossible to hit the cover all on his bingo games. Mr. Fertita bought the place, installed a buffet and the place took off. I spent a lot of money there. One day I had an otherworldly experience. I am playing my usual slot machine when the lady next to me hit a $875 000 jackpot. I said to myself, I could just as easily played that machine. here is the kicker. She returned some weeks later, played the same machine and hit a $25 million jackpot. The odds on that happening must be astronomival It was in all the papers. The entire complex was renovated and is now fairly upscale. As with all Station Casino casinos it offers tons of free parking. It is a mostly locals place although it is sitting next to an off/on ramp of the I15. Very easy to get to.

It opened in 1995. It was located on East Fremont, within the Las Vegas city limits It opened with 100 rooms and was considered to be the first resort hotel. It had several expansions. I drove by there many times and always wondered about that casino, so far away from all the action. But it survived for many years. Some years later the Station Casinos group decided to build Boulder Station, fairly close to the Showboat. It then bought the Showboat and tore it down. I always had a suspicion it wanted no competition.I could be wrong, but, very strange.

At the 1700 block of Boulder Highway. Known for cheap, but lousy food. I have fond memories of the place. I drove home early one morning from my girl friends house in Boulder Cit and decided to stop at the Skyline for breakfast. I played the slots and hit a $1 500. jackpot. I continued my trip with a song on my lips. Other than that it is just one of the many small casinos in the Las Vegas area. It manages to hang in there, it has been in business for many years. The Hacienda was the second hotel/casino built at that location. The first was the Gold Strike which burned down. The Hacienda in turn was replaced by the Hoover Dam Lodge/Casino. This is a special token, with its finely detailed image of Hoover Dam commemorating its 65th anniversary, and the fact that this casino no longer exists

This hotel has undergone many changes until it was torn down in 1997 and replaced by a new hotel/casino in 1998.It first opened as the Tallyho without a casino. A hotel on the strip without a casino? What were they thinking? It had many different owners. One of the owners was unable to get a Gaming license because of inadequate funding. There may be a lot of action on the strip, but as a casino operator you still have to know your business. I went inside one time during a sudden rainstorm. Buckets and pails were sitting all over the casino floor because of the leaking roof. I loved it, no one else did.
This token is pretty much ideal for a gambler. It has the magic lamp on one side. Rub it and your wishes will come true.

Mr. Wynn wanted to build the Bellagio. To make room for it he had the Dunes imploded, and my job too. It did not matter, I had another the following day. The Bellagio opened in 1998. It was so over the top all of Las Vegas must have been at the opening, including myself. We had never seen anything like that before. The dining, the fountains, the arboretum with the constantly changing, expensive displays. It is totally amazing. But more was to come in the following years.

Opened in 1966 and was the most opulent hotel in Las Vegas until Mr. Wynn came along. It was built by Mr. Sarno and his partner. Mr. Sarno also built CircusCircus I believe. It had a parking lot so large at the time, Formula one racing took place on it. I was able to watch, I worked at the top of the Dunes at a fancy restaurant at the time. Evil Knievel tried to jump over the fountains, and broke a lot of his bones. That parking lot was the cause of a lot of fun and laughter during the rainy season. It was filled with signs warning drivers not to park in the low lying spots. They did it anyway,it was ten steps closer to the entrance. Then the rain came and a lot of Caillacs, Lincolns and Mercedes floated under the Imperial Palace, which was and still is, a flood control channel and wound up crushed on Koval Lane, behind the hotel. One day I was driving down the strip and I had a coupon for a free pull on the giant slot machine at Caesars. I swerved across four lanes of traffic across the median which was just dirt at the time and lined up for my turn. A lady behind me got real angry and yelled at me I had taken her spot. I didn't care, I lined up behind her. When it was my turn at the machine I hit one thousand dollars, which was good money at the time. I still think about that idiot woman.
Anyway, I took my winning and changed some of it into gaming tokens. I played black jack and made another hundred bucks. Good money at the time. I saved those lucky tokens and now sell a few of them.If you too want some luck, get a token or two. It could not hurt.

I often wondered why the name. Are those folks from Australia? It is a bit odd, but hey, this is Vegas, baby. At 160 E. Flamingo, about one block east of the strip. Nothing much noteworthy here except for one memorable thing. I am standing in front of the hotel, on the sidewalk. This bus driver comes around trying to get out of the parking garage underneath a low part of the building and gets stuck underneath. I told him to deflate his tires to be able to get going. I don't know if he listened, because I walked away. It is just a small "boutique" hotel with few rooms and some gaming.
Their token is real well designed. Simple lines, easy to read, pleasant gold color. It has a modern look to it. I like it a lot.

The El Cortez was built in 1941 for around $245 000 dollars. In 1945 mobsters Meyer Lansky, Moe Sedway, Bugsy Siegel and Gus Greenbaum bought it to train employees for the Flamingo that was being build on the strip. The El Cortez is famous for never having changed its exterior.It sits on East Fremont, about one half of a mile away from the main action. The neighborhood is not the best. Pretty run down.Another innovation I hate about down town these days are those infernal parking meters everywhere. It is one of the reason I no longer visit. The city has become too money hungry.All tokens have the same front.

I know of five different Hilton hotels at or near the strip. Each one of them huge.Three of them were added just a couple of years ago at Resorts World, Las Vegas Blvd. and Sahara, where the Stardust used to be, almost, not quite. The famous, or is it infamous, Flamingo Hotel/casino. The 3rd oldest casino on the strip, still in business, and going strong. A checkered history all the same. It was started by Bugsy Siegel, the dapper lady's man who foresaw the development of the strip. His mobster backers allegedly got tired of cost over runs and his shenanigans with a famous actress. They did not want any unwanted publicity, and, as the word goes, put a contract on him and had him transported into a different world. The Flamingo is now called the "Flamingo Hilton". There is a wonderful park behind the hotel with, you guessed it, pink Flamingos. A little bit of Art Deco, a little bit of Streamline Modern, and a stop of the Monorail. Very easy access to other properties and the gigantic Las Vegas convention center.
To me their tokens hold a certain mystery. Bugsy was killed over this casino.

The HardRock hotel on Paradise closed in 2020. It was taken over by Virgin Hotels. The gaming area will be operated by the Mohegan Native American Tribe and will be called the Mohegan Sun Casino. It makes our collection of tokens pretty rare and collectible.
Hard Rock is such a well known name, and its tokens are very collectible. I have only a few, first come , first serve.

On the corner of the I-15 and Tropicana Av. I did a little bit of business with the very small gift shop. I did a lot of business with the owners at that time, the "Terrible Herbst" group. It started with a gas station and expanded over time until now there are at least 90 (my guess) of them. The two sons did a lot of off road racing. Very nice people. When the big recession hit some years ago, the casinos went under, the gas stations remained. The above mentioned location is slated for demolition and redevelopment some time this year.

In business since 1999, the Paris is a nice copy of the real thing, complete with a half size Eiffel Tower and French-themed restaurants. Their various slot tokens show images of the Eiffel Tower, Arc de Triomphe, Place de la Concorde (which used to be Place de la Revolution, where the guillotine sat), and the large imitation hot air balloon that adorns the building on its Strip frontage. This is the oldest in "CONTINUOUS' operation hotel/casino in the Las Vegas valley. It dates back to the thirties. It still has a few machines that let customers play quarters.

About five miles east of the strip, but well worth a look see.The hotel encloses a large inner court yard with a running creek, a waterfal, some howling coyotes and a lot of trees and bushes. Every so often the lights are dimmed and the waterfall comes to life. real interesting. This hotel caters to a lot of different folks. There is a downstairs bowling alley and a quite good mexican restauran. Upstairs you have your fast food and a nice steak house. Not much by the way of shopping. Parking is plentiful. There is also a trailer park. Easy to reach by a straight shot down Flamingo Road from the strip, or nort on Boulder Highway from Henderson. Or take the Flamingo Road off ramp east from the I-95.

This hotel/casino is a few miles west of the strip, on Rampart Blvd. It calls itself "resort and spa and is located in an upscale part of Las Vegas. It is part of the JW Mariott group of hotels. It is pretty large for an off strip property and is full service with restaurants, bars, and other amenities. Lots of free parking too. Wether it is worth a side trip from the strip is debatable. I would do it.

As far south of center strip as you can go. The next stop going south is a golf course, so far anyway. Until someone decides to build yet another hotel. It never seems to stop. And they run at full capacity most of the time. Just try and get a room during the travel season. This hotel has a bunch of very good, and pricey, restaurants and dinner houses. There is even an authentic Russian restaurant. It had a life size statue of a communist leader in front for a while. Too many people complained about it , and its head was chopped off. Now it is just a headless statue. One of the restaurant has a wine tower. In order to retrieve a certain bottle of wine a helper is lowered down by ropes to get it. Just like an indoor climbing tower. There is also a huge, walk through fish tank. I have been watching those fish grow larger over the years. Lots of parking. I don't know if there is a fee, but i don't think so. It is not center strip as I said. M. was the scene of the worst mass shooting in U.S. history. 60 people were killed if I remember correctly.

It is now the Horseshoe. Just another example of all the changes on the strip. It is nothing new. This has been happening right from the beginning. Everything has been remodeled, except for the rooms. New restaurants, new everything.

It is exactly where it said it would be, on Fremont St. It cannot be missed, it occupies a corner location and the marquee is huge. My favorite place for a buffet lunch or dinner. Good food at a reasonable price.It holds true for all Boyd properties. A parking garageis attached. I am not sure if there is a fee for that. I will check it out.

This is not exactly a strip propert.It is well away from the strip on W. Flamingo Rd. The success (eventual) of this hotel prompted other developers to build casinos/hotels away from the strip. There are now a number of them, The Palms, Red Rock, Orleans, for example. More are being developed, mostly along freeway off ramps. At one time it advertised a baked potato so big it would feed a family. I did not believe it and checked it out. It proved to be true. I was unable to finish it by myself. Mr. Marnell, a real estate developer built the Rio.. He also built the "M", about ten miles south of center strip. It is the all black glass building on the righ hand side of the I-15 as you drive in from the south. The tokens are silver tone.

When I lived in Reno, I played the slots at Harrahs, sometimes at Harold's Mostly dimes or nickels. As you can tell that was a few years ago. Mr. Harrah called me over on one occasion and told the pit boss to give me a dinner ticket. That night my wife and I had dinner at his casino. Turned out the ticket I received was for dinners or lunch for a whole month. Mr. Harrah was a tall, skinny guy, very friendly and personable. I have no tokens from that time period, because there either were no dollar machines, or all play was with genuine silver dollars.All tokens are from Harrahs Las Vegas.
