I recently used them. This is how it works. You enter the tunnel and tell the attendant know where you would like to go. He points at a Tesla car with driver and tells you take that car. The driver takes you where you want to go for five bucks. Definitely a good deal. I don’t need to tell you those cars are very comfortable. Elon’s tunnel diggers are busy expanding them all over the Vegas valley. It is a whole new way of getting people from point a to point b. Very convenient. And no tipping. It is not allowed. That is a relief. The local papers reported that Elon (he calls it the Boring Company), has been approved for an additional 68 miles of tunnels. http://www. elon-musk-tesla-tunnel-las-vegas/
Do you like our report on those tunnel You should try them, just for the experience. Resorts world has a station, and the Convention Center does too. There are a few more, find them by checking the website.
We try hard to support local artists. Here are a few books that are worth reading. “Nevada a Strange State”. Short vignettes, most of them with a drawing. Did you know that after 1939 it was no longer permitted to ride your horse into a casino? Another good one is “Silveropolis” the largest silver strike in Nevada history. The third one is “The Great Lake Mead Water Caper”.” Russian oligarch trying to steal our water. But Phil and his team are messing that up. Good read, lots of tensions and chases.
We make ever
A wildlife habitat at center strip? Sounds crazy, but it is true. It is a jungle back there. It is not huge, not acres and acres, but it is a very well planned location. It is in the rear courtyard of the hotel. It features flamingos of course, but also ducks, swans and other birds. It is really cute, and it is free. Perfect for the kids to spend a few hours. I applaud Caesars Entertainment for making this available free of charge. Anyone can come in and sit for a while. All of it center strip where real estate is valued in the millions. Have any of you been to that location? Did you even know about it? Let us know, we like to promote it. http://www.caesars.com/flamingo/lasvegas/
We support local artists. Right now we feature three interesting books written by local authors. The first one is really interesting, it is about all the odd stuff that happened in Nevada. 135 pages with many drawings by the author. Did you know that after 1939 riders were no longer allowed to ride their horse into a casino? I did not know they were able to do that at all. Crazy. Lots of short vignettes like that. Another good one is “Silveropolis” the largest silver strike in Nevada history. It was abandoned and then forgotten because of a virus. A good read. I liked it a lot. The third one is interesting. It involves Russian oligarchs trying to steal our water, with the help of Nazi technology. “The Great Lake Mead Water Caper” It keeps you at the edge of your chair. They are on Amazon. Buy a few for gift giving. That’s what I do.
If you like fine art than this gallery is a must see. It is very convenient, the Bellagio is located center strip. We checked the admission policy. Tickets run $20. We are not sure it that is for all exhibits, they constantly change. Under 17 must be accompanied by an adult. I would make a reservation, some exhibits are very popular. Here again, we think the Bellagio spends a lot of money on maintaining this gallery. The same as with its conservatory and those fountains. The idea is to get customers through the doors. But still, very admirable. We support the MGM company (the owners) for keeping it going. Wynn started it. He also deserves our thanks for bringing some culture into the gaming scene.
. In that vein we would like to recommend some books by local authors. We want to support the local authors by providing this space free of charge. “Nevada a Strange State.” That It is a collection of short vignettes and numerous drawings that are about all the odd things in our past and present. Did you know that after 1939 riders on horse back were no longer allowed to enter a casino? Another good one is “Silveropolis” the largest silver strike in Nevada history. Or “The Great Lake Mead Water Caper” Russian oligarchs use Nazi technology to steal our water. You can buy the books on Amazon. http://www.mgmresorts.com
Would you visit the gallery or buy some books? Let us know. Do you think we nee to make changes?
The address is 2 Cactus Garden Dr. Henderson, NV. An easier way is , drive east on Sunset, when it takes that huge right turn just go straight across the intersection. You will be able to see the factory from across the street on the left hand side. It offers factory tours, tastings, a small cafe and a free tour of the 3 acre cactus garden out back, the largest in the U.S. I buy all my holiday and birthday chocolates here. Pricey/ It depends how you look at it. You can buy real chocolate like at this place, or you can buy carob. It tastes like chocolate, but is not chocolate. Also, everything is beautifully gift packaged,, and the individual chocolates have identifiers, ready to gifted. The ride from the strip is about 5 or six miles. Well worth it in my opinion. I know of a good book tha may be a good companion to a glass of hot chocolate. “Nevada a Strange State”. Full of nice drawings, I counted 135 of them. Did you know that after 1935 you no longer could ride your horse into a casino? Let me know what you think of that one. If this was at the strip I would wworry ere if I was Hershey. http://www.ethelm.com
It is inside the New York New York Hotel at 3790 Las Vegas Blvd. S. Here you can find the “Flavor Walls” One is all Reese’s, another is all Kisses, the third is, you guessed it, all Jolly Rancher. A huge treat for all ages. But, it has competition, believe it or not. Ethel M is just a few miles down the road in Henderson, in a off strip complex that is well worth visiting. Go to my Ethel M post. For other odd and exciting stuff get the following books. “Nevada a Strange State http://www.hersheyschocolateworldlasvegas.com
The reason I mention those two together is because Berlin is a ghost town and it is watched over by Nevada Park Rangers. It takes a four wheel drive and extra supplies to reach that park. It is in the center of the state, in Nye county. Nye county at about 20.000 square miles is the second largest county in the U.S. The only complete skeleton in the U.S. of a prehistoric fish is on display. Berlin, the adjoining ghost town is almost completely preserved including pots and pans. It is a bit of travel from Las Vegas. It may not be for everyone. I list it for interest sake Do you want to know more about Nevada? .This book may help “Nevada a Strange State”. http://www.parks.nv.gov
This is stretching it, it is 150 miles one way. It would take me around three hours. It is worth it if you have the time, and a car. or book a tour. Some amazing sights that are not available anywhere else. Almost the entire state of Utah is full of amazing sights. Have you ever been to Zion? Share your experience here. I can recommend a couple of books. “Nevada a Strange State” The Great Lake Mead Water Caper” and last but not least “Silveropolis” Get them on Amazon or directly from us. http://www.nps.gov.zion

THE REVIVAL OF A LOCAL LANDMARK
Just twenty five miles south of the strip, on very well maintained roads, lies the small town of Boulder City. Boulder City was a bright beacon to the desperate people of the Great Depression. The Company Store rose to meet the needs of 5,200 workers hired to build the Hoover Dam from 1931-1936. Its slogan is “BE A BOULDERITE”. The store is right in down town Boulder City. It offers always fresh coffee and pastries.with plenty of seating indoors or out It sells in house designed t shirts and textiles, home crafted jewelry items, and a large selection of wooden music boxes. From Harry Potter to Star Wars, it is all there. There is a selection of books written by locals. I am a strong believer in that. Check for example “Nevada a Strange State” It is astounding all the stuff that happened around this state. The owner is Tara. She is a very friendly and inviting person, easy to talk to. http://bouldercitystore.com
While I was sleeping someone else was doing this, collecting huge neon signs. I wish I would have thought about it first. It is real interesting to see all those huge signs rescued from casinos that are long gone. Lots of them too, not just one or two. And very close to down town. It is at the 700 block of Las Vegas Blvd. N. A few parking spaces only, but I never had a problem parking my vehicle. A very nominal fee needs to be paid for entry to the building. Well worth it. What do you think/ Do you like to look at that old stuff? You will see signs of casinos you may have never before heard of, the Thunderbird for example, or the Silver Slipper, and others. If you think those signs are strange you should read this book, “Nevada a Strange State” or “Silveropolis, or “The Great Lake Mead Water Caper” good entertainment plus you will learn something. http://www.neonmuseum.org
Contrary to popular belief it is actually possible to pay it a visit. After you jump through all the hoops, which is completely understandable. Just this one area of Nevada is larger than some eastern states. Area 51, a popular topic among alien hunters is inside the test site. So are the U2 and other super secret weapons. The word is that a lot of the futuristic Nazi stuff is inside one of the hangars. Like the Horton flying wing for example. Most people just drive up to the Alien Mail Box. Yes indeedey it is possible to write a letter to your favorite alien. Just deposit your missive in that mail box. Do not forget the proper frankature. and the correct address. People try to enter the test site from there. Forget it, don’t even try it. Even if you get inside you will not get anywhere fast There are miles of dry, burning desert. Like I said before, that area is really large. besides, you get yourself arrested real fast.
official name is The National Museum of Organized Crime and Law Enforcement. Inside the historic post office building on 300 Stewart St, one block north of Fremont St. Very interesting place. It even has a “Speakeasy” pub with home brew., it is in the basement. I like it a lot, but what do you think of it? http://www.themobmuseum.org
If you like to know more about nNvada I can recommend the following books, “Nevada a Strange State”, packed with odd stuff , drawings and vignettes. Two more that I can recommend are “Silveropolis” I have read them all. This one is about the largest silver strike in Nevada history. and “The Great Lake mead Water Caper. ” Get them at Amazon.
You can indulge in that on Fremont St., the main drag in Las Vegas, (besides Las Vegas Blvd. itself). This is huge fun. There you are, way above the crowd, gliding for most of a city block, maybe even more. The twinkling lights of the canopy are above you, the lights of the shops and cafes are at your feet. Heck, I could write a song about it. Maybe you can. Go ahead, write your song and post it here. You could be famous. http://www.vegas.com
About two blocks east of down town Las Vegas, on Fremont St. at the entrance of the container park. A large sculpture of a dragon. It is programmed to spit fire every so often. It is interesting to see, do you agree? http://www.downtowncontainerpark.com
Two or three blocks east of down town Las Vegas, on Fremont street, is a shopping mall entirely made of 60 ft. shipping containers. Nice shops and restaurants and a fire breathing dragon. A must see in my opinion I like it, do you? http://www.downtowncontainerpark.com
It is a sculpture made of stainless steel. Mr. Wynn paid a tremendous amount of money for it, word has it it was around $28 million. Jeff Koons is the artist and it took two years to create. It is now sitting in the Wynn (hotel) esplanade under twenty four hour guard. It weighs 2000 pounds. A cleaning crew is flown in from Germany once a year for cleaning. I make it a point to look at it when I am in town. Did you take a look? Let us know what you think of it.is http://www.wynnlasvegas.com
The old MGM had a “fronton” It closed years ago. I used to go in and place small bets. In this game bets are placed on the player. Too bad, I liked to watch. The game is of Basque origin. Do you think it should be brought back?
There have been scandals around bingo rooms in the past. One operator was caught never paying a large pay-out. Hopefully it all is cleared up now. But several bingo rooms were closed by the Gaming Control Board, and a large one was forced to sell. That one morphed into the Palace Station. There are not many bingo rooms around any longer. I do not know of any on the strip at all. The Station Casinos chain of casinos have them. There may be a couple more somewhere, but I am not aware of them. To me it is just a game, not gambling at all. I say that for a simple reason. There is nothing you can do that would affect the outcome of a game. In blackjack you can ask for a card, in dice you will roll them and so forth. Not bingo, just fill in the numbers that are called and hope for the best. But, it is a pleasant way to spend an hour without losing too much. Let me know what you think. Station casinos actually started out as a bingo parlor and morphed into Palace Station. http://www.palacestation.com
We are always trying to help local artists. We currently promote three books. They are: Nevada a Strange State, Silveropolis and The Great Lake mead Water Caper. All proceeds will go to the artist and we thank you. The books are on Amazon.
Have you ever been so scared you wanted to hide under a blanket? You can do that at the Stratosphere, a tower that rises about 800 feet above the surrounding area. There are three rides on top of that tower. One of them resembles a bungee jump, there is another that swings out over the outside and then rotates, the third one has you strapped into a seat and then blast you another hundred feet straight up. I don’t know if it is one hundred, but I was plenty scared. Not because I was taken the ride, no, I was scared just watching it. Did you try it? Did you get scared? Which one of those three rides is the best?, let us know. http://www.thestrat.com
We do all we can to help our local artists. This expensive space is a donation from us to them. This month we feature three books. They are: Nevada a Strange State, Silveropolis and The Great Lake Mead Water Caper. Every cent of sales will go to this artist. The books are on Amazon, and we thank you.
Not very far at all by car. It is possible to get to a pretty high elevation on a paved road. It has a ski season, ski lifts, a lodge. In short it is a regular ski resort. No one ever expects that at Las Vegas. Those of you with breathing problems better not try it. I think the lodge is at about 8 000 feet. There is also a “retreat” which is actually a boutique hotel. It lies at 6.700 feet. It all is pretty new and modern ( the lodge) , the previous one burned down a few years back and was replaced with a new one. http://www.retreatcharlestonpeak.com
We always try to support local, Nevada, artists. Here are three books we think are worth your attention. Number one is “Nevada a Strange State” about 135 pages of short vuhnettes, most of them with a drawing. Did you know the only first lady of the U.S. born and raised in Nevada was Pat Nixon? She was from Elko, the last cow town. Elko is close to the Utah line, in the high desert. It gets really cold in that area. Just check that famous movie with Clint Eastwood “High Plains Drifter” It really shows the cold. The second book I would like to present is “Silveropolis” the rise and fall of the richest silver town in Nevada history. And all because of a virus. It had me biting my nails, the tension builds and builds. The third book is called “The Great Lake Mead Water Caper” those darn Russians try to steal our water with the help of Nazi technology. Those folks are plain no good I tell ye.
It is at CircusCircus. Various rides, a roller coaster and more. Tons to do for kids. This hotel also features a rotating bar. It also has lots of gift shops. The best part here is the parking. It definitely bucks the trend . Acres of indoor and outdoor parking, always free. This hotel has been around forever it seems. But the price is right. If you are a little tight on money, this is the place to be. It has everything the big boys have, and allegedly the best steakhouse in town. http://www.circuscurcus.com.
It is at the NewYorkNewYork hotel. It runs right through the casino, overhead of course. That goes without saying. It is not the only one in town. This is Las Vegas, baby. If you have an indoor roller coaster, I want one also. The competition can be found at CircusCircus. See how that works?, I am seeing double in both cases. The latter hotel has an entire indoor amusement park. I give it a separate treatment. And, by coincidence, those two hotels are almost exactly on opposite ends of the strip, one on the south end, the other in the north. One of them has a giant statue of Liberty up front, the other a giant Clown. I let you guess which is which. Let us know whether you enjoyed that ride. .http://www.newyorknewyork.mgmresorts.com
That one can be found next to the Flamingo Hotel at the end of what used to be just an alley. I know that, because I used to walk through that alley to get home. Here is the thing with that wheel. I did not enjoy it for the simple reason I have a weak bladder. The reason I have a weak bladder is because I am real old. It is something to consider. I made it a point to use the bathroom before entering one of the cabins. The wheel rotates real slowly. I think about an hour for a whole rotation. Those cabins have no bathrooms, be prepared. http://www.linq-highroller.com
We put great value in supporting local artists ans we donate this expensive space. Three books are on our list for this month. They Are: Nevada a Strange State, Sillveropolis and The Great Lake mead Water Caper. All proceeds will go to the artist. The books are on Amazon. We thank you for your support.
Only in Las Vegas would you be able to encounter a spectacle such as this. Actual canals inside a hotel/casino, with actual singing gondoliers. Book a ride and be serenaded. The rest of the hotel is also very interesting. Don’t miss out on that ride. Let us know if it is worth it. We need to tell others. The image is of a private suite at the Venetian Hotel. http://www.venetianlasvegas.com
We are always interested in helping local artists. This expensive space is a donation. Three books are on the list for this month. They are: Nevada a Strange State, Silveropolis, The Great Lake Mead Water Caper. All proceeds will be handed to the artist. The books are on Amazon. Thanks a million.
I have no way of knowing how much money this hotel spends on its arboretum, but I have a feeling it runs into the millions of dollars. If you do not do anything else in Las Vegas as far as sightseeing goes, you would be a fool to miss this. Have you seen it and do you want to leave a message for others? Do it here, we have plenty of space. http://www.bellagio.mgmresorts.com
Very cute, little , town. Away from all the noise. To get there take the I 160 , the Pahrump Highway. and turn off into the Spring Mountain Road It is not far, but probably not worth your time. This area attracts a lot of hikers. It has gotten to the point where you need a reservation to use the road beyond Blue Diamond. What makes this town noteworthy is the fact that it was a stop over on the old Spanish Trail, that ran from Santa Fe, New Mexico, to Los Angeles, California.(la Poblacion de Nuestra Snora la Reina de Porciuncula) .that was what In those days Los Angeles was simply called . Blue Diamond’It was then known as “Ojo de Cayetano” The only place for many miles with natural springs. Now it is a dusty little town, but in the day it was hugely important. Have you visited? What was your impression? I actually like it, a lot.
Old time Nevada mining town. The mines closed, the town is very quiet now. Not much to see. If you want to visit the old home of our, now deceased, long time senator, Harry Reid, it is right here, in this little town. It got its name from one of the first residents who,” allegedly” said “there is gold in them thar hills, but you need a searchlight to find it” There must have been some gold because the ruins of the old mine are quite substantial. Quit a few residents are still around. No website, only access electronically is by going to the Clark County website http://www.clarkcountynv.gov
There is no gambling involved. Just stick your money, or players card, in the slot (slot machine) and pull the handle, or push a button, or set it on automatic. Very simple. Contrary to all the rumors I have heard over the years, there is no such thing as machines that never pay, or pay very little. The regulatory people here in Vegas, the Gaming Control Board have rules that state how much of a percentage needs to be paid out. In theory, should such a rule not exist, some renegade operator may opt to never pay out a red cent. Should that get in the papers it may spell the end of Vegas. So, no. They all pay, some more, some less, but always above the minimum. If you do not believe it you can leave me a note, right here, on this forum. If it is true what you say, and you can prove it,we will let the proper people know. So, fire away,we are all ear. http://www.lasvegasvisitor.com
Two kinds of poker are popular in Las Vegas as far as I know. We have seven card stud, and we have Texas -Hold-Em. There may be a casino that deals Omaha, but I am not aware of it. There are a few more varieties around the U.S. such as Stud, or Pineapple, but they do not seem to be popular here in Las Vegas. Poker is very unique because the casino itself is not involved in the game other than to provide the facility and the dealer. The casino is not interested in who wins or loses, it gets a “rake” (percentage) off the top until a certain amount, to cover its expenses, and that is it. The casino does employ proposition players. Their only job is to start a game going. Once it has started and there are enough players to keep a game going they leave the table. A shill does the same , but plays with house money to get a game started. Reputable poker rooms will let the players know about shills, and even identify them. Prop. players are paid by the house, but play with their own money. Whatever they win, they keep. Shills play with house money and have to return their winnings to the house. All of it is legal. Before even thinking of sitting down at a poker table in Las Vegas you need to consider this. Las Vegas is full of card sharks and poker players that want to make money without having to break a sweat. Most of them are very, very good. Some work in teams and signal one another on how to play. Caution is the order of the day. Some poker rooms are more popular than others, depending on the comps and other amenities. Let us know which poker room is the best, in your opinion. I know of a couple that I like. http://www.lasvegasvisitor.com, http://www.bellagio.com. http://mgm.com
In Europe this game is called 21, in France vingt et un, it is actually a more accurate description of the game. I do not recommend playing it. I really cannot recommend any table game, but it is all up to the individual. If it was up to me only craps tables would remain in the Las Vegas casinos. The fact is that a lot of people like to play card games. They are interesting and full of tension. If you, the customer , likes to play a card game, can afford it, and does not go over board with it, I see nothing wrong with it. So, what do you think? I take all the fun out of, don’t I? You can mouth off about it right here http://www.lasvegasvisitor.com
