Poker
Two kinds of poker are popular in Las Vegas as far as I know. We have seven card stud, and we have Texas -Hold-Em. There may be a casino that deals Omaha, but I am not aware of it. There are a few more varieties around the U.S. such as Stud, or Pineapple, but they do not seem to be popular here in Las Vegas. Poker is very unique because the casino itself is not involved in the game other than to provide the facility and the dealer. The casino is not interested in who wins or loses, it gets a “rake” (percentage) off the top until a certain amount, to cover its expenses, and that is it. The casino does employ proposition players. Their only job is to start a game going. Once it has started and there are enough players to keep a game going they leave the table. A shill does the same , but plays with house money to get a game started. Reputable poker rooms will let the players know about shills, and even identify them. Prop. players are paid by the house, but play with their own money. Whatever they win, they keep. Shills play with house money and have to return their winnings to the house. All of it is legal. Before even thinking of sitting down at a poker table in Las Vegas you need to consider this. Las Vegas is full of card sharks and poker players that want to make money without having to break a sweat. Most of them are very, very good. Some work in teams and signal one another on how to play. Caution is the order of the day. Some poker rooms are more popular than others, depending on the comps and other amenities. Let us know which poker room is the best, in your opinion. I know of a couple that I like. http://www.lasvegasvisitor.com, http://www.bellagio.com. http://mgm.com
