Death Valley
This trip may be too much for most visitors to Las Vegas. Let me explain. Baker is the entrance to Death Valley. The only reason,in my opinion, that little town exists at all is because of Death Valley. And its location off the I 15 about half way between L.A. and L.V. The thing about Death Valley is its sheer size. Most out of state visitors have no idea what it means to travel through Death Valley. Baker,as I said, is the starting point. After that it is possible to travel 300 miles before exiting at the other end. But still, if I had the time I would do it. It is not every day a visitor is at the lowest point in the U.S. and at the same time within reach of its highest point in Inyo County, California. I am talking about Mount Whitney. Highway 127 on the road sign leads into Inyo CA, the least populated county in CA. The county seat, Independence has only about 300 permanent residents. A former U.S. president acted in a television series about mining in Death Valley. It was president Reagan and his “Death Valley Days ” series, sponsored by a borax company. It was the 16 mule team advertising it used that got the peoples attention.I selected this particular image to show the hellish driving conditions at Death Valley. http://www.nps.gov
