Trumpets
at Sun City Anthem, inside the club house.
This is in a really beautiful lay-out. The building looks somewhat like a
prairie style building (Frank L. Wright), but it isn't. It is low slung with
tentacle-like wings. The restaurant style is, for me, undefinable. Is it 30's?
Is it post modern? Is it art deco? I can't tell. The menu is extensive and for
this type of restaurant, moderately priced. Entrees run from $17 to $23 a la
carte. Daily specials are about $24 for the complete dinner. Wines are from $19
to $76 etc. etc. you get the idea. Sun City Anthem members get substantial
discounts on certain items at certain times. Service is quick and the servers
(mostly young kids) are trained and knowledgeable. I had the salad Nicoise with
tuna ($10.95). I had some trouble with that. The menu did state crisp baby
greens and haricot verts. Traditionally a salad Nicoise has no lettuce greens
but simply potatoes and French beans (des haricots), mixed with anchovies,
capers, chervil, tarragon, tomatoes and olives, a bit of olive oil, vinegar,
salt and pepper. In other words: it is a very simple dish. No use throwing
sliced, hard boiled egg on it. Or too many crisp baby greens. I know chefs have
some leeway but this is too much. My friend had the stuffed raviolis in a
cheese sauce which she liked a lot. That was OK by me, (she paid for the
dinner). They did have a watermelon soup that was simply outstanding, very
refreshing with a touch of Pernaud. There was also a spinach salad with spicy
pistachios and buffalo cheese. It too was really great. For dessert a chocolate
cake. The chocolate top had a fingerprint in it. Probably the person that had
cut and served the cake. All in all a very good dinner for the price and
excellent service. I shall return. |
