| ROSEMARY'S |
8125 W. Sahara Av. #110, Tel: 702-869-2251, Fax: 702-869-2283 If you want good, I mean excellent, and are not afraid to part with your shekels than this place is a MUST. Why is it that here in Las Vegas all the real good (in my opinion) places are in neighborhood strip malls? The large no-account restaurants on the other hand are in free standing, fancy, buildings? Anyway, we are talking strip mall here in the west part of town. Very ample parking. Nice decor with plenty of attractive paintings lining the walls, nicely starched tablecloths and good looking table settings with heavy flatware. Our party of four arrived at about 1 p.m. and we were seated right away. The lunch was a prix fixe with a good selection of soup, salads, entrees and desserts. I ordered the butternut squash soup with fried sage and the grilled breast of chicken with parsnip mashed potatoes and caramelized shallot sauce topped with fried parsnip strips. My friends had the grilled salmon club sandwich and the cheesy grit cakes in a wild mushroom ragout with a dollop of green onion aioli. I have been to many, many restaurants here and abroad and I must say this is one of the best places I have had the opportunity to visit. Everything was just perfect. The soup was just the right consistency and sweetness, the mashed potatoes nice, light and fluffy, the grilled chicken not overcooked but just right. This was the first time in recent memory I had no reason to do any additional seasoning for anything. I solicited comments from my friends and they too thought it was one of the best places they had visited. If I have any negative comments at all it would be that the food was rather slow coming out of the kitchen That might have been due to the heavy volume of business. Also if I were to offer a fixed price lunch I would include the beverages. The wine list features some very expensive selections, i.e. a glass of wine for $17. Others were about $7 to $8. But here again, if you buy the name you are made to pay. For dessert we had the lemon ice box pie with caramel sorbet. Also very, very good. I believe Rosemary's might be one of the top ten restaurants in Las Vegas at the moment. Unless I find one that is better! Keep up the good work and I shall return - with my friends. |
