| HIGH PRICED BUFFET DINING |
| The trouble with
buffet ratings I have been in Nevada almost 40 years - 10 in Reno, 30 in Las Vegas. I have traveled to every nook and cranny of this state and have dined at probably every buffet in this state from the lousy ones in Laughlin, Sparks and Elko to the superb ones in Las Vegas. The trouble with folks rating buffets in Las Vegas is they get to Las Vegas from Dirty Dungaree, Iowa, stay three days and then feel qualified to give an opinion without having had the opportunity really to do some comparison shopping. It is the Strip buffet mostly that gets rated. Well, there are buffets off the Strip that are far superior considering price and ambience than anything you can get on the Strip. I find a $4.95 luncheon buffet with a limited menu more valuable than a $14.95 luncheon buffet with a large selection. After all, how much can you eat? We locals know it and take advantage of it, heck we get half price coupons sent to us by mail, we ask for senior discounts and get them. But, since most tourists are under time constraints I need to rate a goodly number of Strip buffets as well. |
3667 S.Las Vegas Bl., Tel: 702-736-0111 Good variety of well-prepared American, middle eastern, Mediterranean. Quality is good - i.e. worth the price and not a ripoff. Breakfast $11, lunch $13, dinner $19. See detailed review |
3600 S.Las Vegas Bl., Tel: 693-7111 Very high priced, good selection but frankly not my cup of tea. If you just want to eat lots of food you would be quite happy here. Run of the mill stuff, just more of it. Good quality. I am just repeating what I said about the Bellagio. It is the same stuff, basically, that's why. They feature a Sunday affair in their steak house called the "Sterling Brunch", so named because you better bring plenty of silver in your pocket. For that one you are asked to fork over $53 per (yes, it is fifty-three). |
3600 S.Las Vegas Bl., Tel: 693-7111 Very high priced, decent selection but frankly not my cup of tea. Too much emphasis on seafood. Run of the mill stuff, just more of it. Good quality. Drop in if you are in the hotel anyway. We paid about $20 per. |
3570 S.Las Vegas Bl., Tel: 731-7110. 731-7499 (direct line to buffet) Caesars Palace and the Bellagio are competing in the same space. Caesars however offers a huge array of different buffets, from seafood and prime rib to others. Their regular buffet runs $13.95, seafood $24.99. Call them for the latest pricing (hahaha). |
3475 S.Las Vegas Bl., Tel: 369-500 If you are in the market for a different kind of experience than try this place. They charge a lot and offer little in the way of quality or ambience. Reminds me of a farm I worked on while attending school. So, if you want to sidle up to the feeding trough, EUREKA (you have found it). $9 for breakfast and $15 for lunch. Really not worth the time and money. |
3000 Paradise Rd., Tel: 732-5111 I am not impressed. At least not as pricey as the other places. |
3900 S.Las Vegas Bl., Tel: 262-4000 I have read favorable reviews about this buffet. Me, I am not impressed. Scratch this one off your list. Breakfast and lunch $9, dinner $13, kids 1/2 off. |
395 S.Las Vegas Bl., Tel: 702-632-7777 Very high priced for a Las Vegas buffet, poor selection and frankly not my cup of tea. Run of the mill stuff, just more of it. I would call this one unimaginative. For the price I would at least expect a cheese board, a bread board, maybe some smoked salmon or sturgeon, A lousy bottle of beer sets you back $3.75. My opinion is: you cannot live off decor alone and if you want to charge you have to deliver the goods. I would like to have a tete-a-tete with the F/B manager on this one.The dining room decor and the wait staff are top notch. Good quality. I am just repeating what I said about the Bellagio. It is the same stuff, basically, that's why. I know buffets around Las Vegas that have better selections at half the price. And besides; they recently had problems with the Clark County Health Dept. in the following places: Raffles, Noodles, Rock Lobster and Trattoria del Lupo. That is way too many citations for a place like this. You would think at those prices they could at least keep the place clean. Check the health report for more info. |
200 N. Main., Tel: 387-1896 This may be the best buffet value downtown. Decent food at a decent price. I have tried it several times and have never been disappointed. Besides nice food you get beautiful decor in the form of old americana antiques. Breakfast $5, lunch $7, dinner $10. |
3799 S.Las Vegas Bl., Tel: 891-1111 These folks have come up with a novel way to get your money. Here every day is brunch day, daily brunch $10, then we have this winner "The Early Bird Sunday Champagne Brunch Special" $29.50, then follows the "Sunday Champagne Brunch" $39.50 which is served in a different room entirely (Hollywood Brown Derby). Surprise, surprise, only one dinner offering at $14. Why don't we all just forget it and go elsewhere? |
3400 S.Las Vegas Bl., Tel: 791-7111 . I have tried it several times and have never been disappointed. Now that there is new ownership I'll have to keep my eyes on it and see what happens. I actually like the buffet at their sister hotel (Treasure Island) better. Besides it having the same quality food you can get your meals there on the average $2. cheaper (at Treasure Island), a group of four can save $10. per meal, not bad. Breakfast $9, lunch $10, dinner $20. 07/24/04 - revisited. The room has been remodelled. Instead of a tropical theme, very colorful and with lots of booths it now is very serene with chrome, glass and mirrors. And I don't know it it fits in with the rest of the decor in the hotel. A mistake has been made with the food displays. They now snake all around the room alongside the walls. So, if you are on one side and you want to get to the food on the other side you can either take the long trip along all the food displays or take the shorter trip, annoy a lot of people, and walk by all the diners and tables. The food is very good but pricey. $20 for dinner. |
3770 S.Las Vegas Bl., Tel:730-7777 For some reason I have never made it to their buffet yet, I should do that shortly. Breakfast $9, lunch $8, dinner $12. Strangely the lunch is less in price than the breakfast. |
3655 S.Las Vegas Bl., Tel: 946-7000 To my knowledge the only buffet on the strip that accepts reservations. I have only just begun to check on their restaurants and so far I am not impressed. The coffee shop is pretty average. I have heard negative comments about the buffet. Incidentally, it features french regional cuisine at dinner time. In my opinion they charge too much for their food. They could try to get your money at the gambling tables and than pacify you with inexpensive food. That way everyone is happy. Breakfast $11, lunch $15, dinner $22. |
3700 W. Flamingo., Tel: 252-7777 I don't know if it is worth fighting traffic just to go to their buffet. Their restaurant on top of the building left a sour taste in my stomach (to coin a phrase). I ate at the buffet a few times and found it wanting. If you want good and are in your car anyway drive a few blocks to the Orleans, much better for the price. Breakfast $8, lunch $11, dinner $14. |
3000 S. Las Vegas Bl., Tel: 702-732-6111. Overpriced for what they offer. Unacceptable by most standards. $7, $8 and $11. |
221 N. Rampart Bl., Tel: 702-869-7777 Now here is a place with a huge selection of food one does not see every day. Greek salads, eggplant parmesan etc. I like it. I think I paid about $25 for this one and I was glad to do it. Keep up the good work!! This hotel is on shaky ground financially. Call them before you take the trip there. |
3300 S.Las Vegas Bl., Tel: 894-7111 This may be the best buffet value on the strip. Decent food at a decent price. I have tried it several times and have never been disappointed. Now that there is new ownership I'll have to keep my eyes on it and see what happens. Breakfast $7, lunch $8, dinner $12. |
3801 S.Las Vegas Bl., Tel: 739-2222 This used to be the class of the strip. Now it is an also ran. Just brunches and dinners, $8 and dinner $12. Not really worth it. |
